THE PAROUSIA
Order of Final Events – (In explaining the future resurrection, Paul lists the key events that will precede or coincide with the arrival of Jesus – 1 Corinthians 15:20-28)
Parousia – Vindication or Condemnation – (The “coming” of Jesus will mean the vindication of the righteous and the judgment and condemnation of the wicked)
The End of the Age – Parousia! – (The return of Jesus at the end of the present age will be an event of great glory, victory, and finality)
Hastening the Day of the Lord – (2 Peter 3:3-13 – Right Christian conduct and mission completion may “hasten” the arrival of the “Day of the Lord”)
His Return and New Creation – (His arrival means the Day of the Lord, the final judgment, and the New Creation)
Coming on Clouds – (The whole earth will witness the Son of Man arriving on the clouds to gather his elect to himself)
The End of Death – (The arrival of Jesus in glory will mean the termination of Death)
IN THESSALONICA
The Dead in Christ – (Paul reassured the Thessalonians that both living and dead saints will participate in the arrival of Jesus)
Concerning Times and Seasons – (The Day of the Lord will come “like a thief in the night” – 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11)
Just Judgment of God – (His arrival will mean vindication for some but everlasting loss for others)
Lawless One Destroyed – (Jesus will destroy the works of the Lawless One at his arrival in glory)
