SPIRIT

SPIRIT AND CHURCH

I send forth the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city, until ye be clothed with power from on high.

Tarry in Jerusalem – (Jesus commanded his disciples to tarry in the city until they received the Spirit – Acts 1:1-11)

Between Law and Spirit – (Between the ascension and Pentecost, the apostles appointed Matthias to complete their number)

When Pentecost Arrived – (On the day of Pentecost, the time of fulfillment arrived when Jesus bestowed the Spirit – Acts 2:1-4)

What Does This Mean? – (The outpouring of the Spirit on Pentecost caused a great commotion in Jerusalem – Joel 2:4-13)

Pentecost and the Last Days – (The outpouring of the Spirit on Pentecost signaled the arrival of the “last days”)

PROMISE AND FULFILLMENT

For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him.”

The Promise of the Father – Blessing of Abraham – (The New Testament equates the gift of the Spirit with the promise to Abraham)

The Life-Giving Spirit – (Both in the original creation and the New Creation in Jesus, the Spirit imparts life)

Spirit and Covenant (The gift of the Spirit is in fulfillment of the promises made to Abraham and the prophets)

Fulfillment of the Feast – (Acts 2:1-4 – With the outpouring of the Spirit, the feast of Pentecost had “fully come“)

The Spirit in Galatia – (The promise of the Spirit is part of the “blessings of Abraham” promised to the nations)
