MESSIAH

WHO IS THIS MAN?

THAT Son of Man – (The “one like a Son of Man” from Daniel is the source of Christ’s self-designation, the “Son of Man” – Daniel 7:13-14)

Jesus and Rome – (Jesus refused the political power offered to him by Satan. Should his disciples do likewise? )

The Power and Wisdom of God – (The Power and Wisdom of God are revealed in Christ Crucified, not in great miraculous displays, political or economic might)

The Suffering Son of Man – (According to Mark, the Son of Man was revealed only in his sufferings and death on a Roman Cross – Mark 15:34-39)

Who is this Man? – The Identity of Jesus – (Mark 15:47The Messiah of Israel cannot be understood apart from his sacrificial death)

Jesus and the Centurion – (Only in his sacrificial death can the identity of Jesus and the nature of his messiahship be understood – Mark 15:29-45)

Lion or Lamb?  Preaching Another Jesus – (In the book of Revelation, the “Lion of Judah” becomes the “Slain Lamb,” not vice versa)

The Anointed Man of the Spirit – (Jesus is the Messiah, the anointed Son of God. From the start, his life was characterized by the empowering presence of the Spirit – Matthew 1:20)

Jesus – Full of Grace and Truth – (John 1:18 – The Law came through Moses but grace and truth through Jesus)

Jesus is the Light of the World, Period! – (Jesus is the “light of the world,” not any nation, a system of government or political ideology)

His Suffering and Death – (Mark 8:31To be the Messiah of Israel means suffering and death, though he is the promised Messiah and Lord over all things)

The Son of God in the Gospel of Mark – (Mark presents a Messiah that cannot be understood apart from his self-sacrificial death)

MINISTRY OF JESUS

The Name of ‘Jesus’ – (Matthew 1:18-21 – His name signifies that, “He will save his people from their sins”)

Jesus – A Priest Forever – (Psalm 110:4 – The priesthood of Jesus is superior to that of Levi or Aaron because it rests on the endless resurrected life of Jesus, a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek)

The Faithful High Priest – (Hebrews 2:5-18 – Hebrews Chapter 2 presents the priesthood of Jesus – his genuine human nature and necessary death to qualify him to become a faithful high priest)
