MESSIAH

Truly, this man was the Son of God!

WHO IS THIS MAN?

Light of the World – (Jesus is the light of the world, not any nation, government or political ideology)

Empowered by the Spirit – (After his baptism, the Spirit drove Jesus into the wilderness to be tested by the Devil)

The Lamb of Israel – (Jesus is the slain Lamb sent by God to redeem humanity and shepherd the nations)

To Whom Homage? – (Jesus refused Satan’s offer of political power)

Servant and King – (The voice from heaven called Jesus my beloved Son, identifying him as the Messiah and the Servant of Yahweh)

He Humbled Himself – (Unlike Adam, the “Servant of Yahweh” did not attempt to grasp the “likeness of God”)

Power and Wisdom – (The proclamation of Christ crucified is God’s power and wisdom)

Suffering Son of Man – (According to Mark, the Son of Man was revealed only in his sufferings and death on a Roman Cross)

Recognizing Jesus – (The Messiah of Israel cannot be understood apart from his death on Calvary)

The Greater Lawgiver – (Matthew portrays Jesus as the Greater Moses who brings the “Law and the Prophets” to fulfillment)

Jesus and the Centurion – (Only in his sacrificial death can the identity of Jesus and the nature of his messiahship be understood – Mark 15:29-45)

The Anointed Man of the Spirit – (Jesus is the Messiah, the anointed Son of God. From the start, his life was characterized by the empowering presence of the Spirit – Matthew 1:20)

For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted.”

HIS MINISTRY

Call His Name Jesus – (Matthew 1:18-21 – His name signifies that, “He will save his people from their sins”)

Priest Forever – (His priesthood is superior since it rests on his endless resurrection life and God’s oath)

Merciful and Faithful High Priest – (His priesthood is valid and trustworthy because Jesus died the same death as all men)
