In the Book of Genesis, God implemented His plan to redeem humanity by establishing His Covenant with Abraham, beginning with the summons for the Patriarch to leave his homeland and sojourn to the “land that I will show you.” Yahweh would produce a “great nation” from him, and the Covenant would bless all the “tribes of the Earth.” Moreover, from its start, the promise of territory was and remains central to the Abrahamic Covenant.

The Death of Death
Some members of the congregation in Corinth were denying the future bodily resurrection of the righteous. Paul responded by stressing the necessity for it. Moreover, he appealed to the past resurrection of Jesus as the precedent for the coming resurrection of believers from the dead. The followers of the Nazarene will be raised bodily when he “arrives” at the end of the age, an event that will signal the termination of death – DEATH WILL BE NO MORE.

The history of Israel includes national sins that resulted in her expulsion from the Promised Land of Canaan. But God foresaw her failures and determined beforehand to institute a New Covenant that would be energized and characterized by His Spirit, and a people, singular, that would include the Gentiles. Moreover, the promised New Covenant would culminate in the resurrection of the righteous dead and the “New Heavens and the New Earth.”

This covenant included the salvation of the nations and would culminate in the New Creation at the end of the age. With the outpouring of the Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, the Age of the Spirit commenced.

The Risen Jesus declared, “All authority in heaven and on earth is given to me, therefore, go and make disciples of all nations!” As the exalted Sovereign over all things, he dispatched his disciples to announce his Lordship and the Good News of salvation to the “uttermost parts of the Earth.” The era of salvation commenced with his death and resurrection; therefore, the offer of reconciliation must be heard on the Earth until the moment the Son of Man arrives “on the clouds of Heaven.”
