PLIGHT TO SOLUTION

Paul presents the gospel beginning from humanity’s plight due to sin until the resurrection of the dead through Jesus Christ.

In his letter to the churches in Rome, Paul presents his most detailed explanation of the gospel. He touches on its key subjects, including death, redemption, the Law, the resurrection, and the New Creation. He begins by describing the plight of humanity caused by sin, then he describes the solution provided by God through Jesus Christ.

CITY BUILT BY GOD

The city “whose builder and founder” is God is none other than the New Jerusalem John saw “descending from heaven” Revelation 21:24-22:5.

The book of Revelation concludes with a portrait of the immense and glorious city of “New Jerusalem” populated by the “innumerable multitude” of men redeemed from every nation by the “Lamb,” the ultimate fulfillment of the covenant promises to Abraham – “land” and “blessings to all the nations of the earth.”

NEW COVENANT IN JESUS

The promises to Abraham find their fulfillment in the New Covenant in Jesus and the New Creation.

The history of Israel includes multiple examples of idolatry and other sins that culminated in her expulsion from the land. But all was not lost. Yahweh foresaw her fall and, from the beginning, determined to restore her and institute a New Covenant, one that would include the nations of the earth. In the end, the New Creation would become the true inheritance of His people.

EPILOGUE – REVELATION

If anyone fails to keep the words of the book, he will be excluded from citizenship in the city of New Jerusalem – Revelation 22:6-21

The Book of Revelation concludes with an epilogue that recalls the earlier promises to “overcoming saints,” reiterates warnings against faithlessness, summons believers to render homage to God alone, and calls for Jesus to “come quickly.” Testimony and assurances from uncontestable sources attest to the trustworthiness of the “words of the book,” which are “prophecy” and the “testimony of Jesus.”

NEW JERUSALEM INHABITED

New Jerusalem is populated fully in fulfillment of the covenant promise to Abraham to “bless all nations” – Revelation 21:24-22:5.

In the preceding section, “New Jerusalem” with its massive dimensions was unveiled. It will take far more than a tiny remnant of “saints” to populate it. Now, John sees the “city” populated with the “innumerable multitude” of the redeemed from every nation and ethnic group, including many from among the “kings of the earth.”
